The Washington Quarter was minted in 90% silver from 1932 to 1964. John Flanagan, a New York sculptor, designed the coin which marked the 200th anniversary of George Washington's birth. Nearly 100 years later, this series enjoys popularity among coin collectors.

The silver Washington Quarter is readily available in uncirculated grades through MS-65 as a raw coin or as a certified coin by PCGS or NGC. Grades as high as MS-67 in PCGS or NGC certified holders are often available. The 1932-D and 1932-S coins are the key dates for the series. They are reasonably available in circulated conditions, but fairly rare as uncirculated coins. They are not absolutely rare. Over 400,000 coins were produced at each of those mints. However, relative to the large number of rare coin collectors who collect Washington Quarters, they are scarce. If you have gotten into the coin collecting hobby as a result of the Statehood Quarters program, this is a great next step on your collecting journey.
