The Walking Liberty Half Dollar is perenially the most collected silver half dollar coin. The design was so popular, the obverse was chosen as the basis for the American Silver Eagle Series. Designed by Adolph A. Weinman, whose initials can be found on the design, the coin was minted from 1916 through 1947. Many collectors choose to start with the Walking Liberty Short Set, which can be either 1941-47 or 1939-47. The Walking Liberty Short Set can be completed with uncirculated examples or almost uncirculated coins. Coins from these dates in the series are readily available in high grades.
Completing the entire set 1916-47 in high grade can be a challenge. Walking Liberty Half Dollars from 1917-23 in high grade are scarce and highly sought after. Get on this rare coin dealer's call list for specific year, mint, and grades. They go quickly and rarely hit the floor.
