The Susan B. Anthony Dollar was first minted in 1979. It was only issued by the U.S. Mint four fours years, 1979, 1980, 1981, and 1999. The coin was unpopular in commerce as it too closely resembled the washington quarter. The coin is historically significant because it marked the first time a woman was featured on an American coin, who was not an allegory or mythological personage. Both the 1979 Susan B. Anthony Dollar and the 1981 Susan B. Anthony Dollar have Type I and Type II mintmarks from the San Francisco mint. In my opinion, the 1979 is readily identifiable while the 1981 take some training and faith to indentify.

Collectors enjoy completing this series and, aside from the 1979 and 1981 S mint types, is suitable for starting children in the hobby. Girls, in particular, might find this a fun coin series to collect because of the historical significance of Susan B Anthony.
