An Act of Congress in 1864 changed the weight and composition of the cent and also authorized the minting
for a bronze two-cent piece in the same proportion to the new weight of the cent. This coin is famous for
being the first American coin to include the motto In God We Trust,partly due to the turmoil of the Civil War. James Longacre designed this short lived coin. |
