The Lincoln Cent design is over 100 years old. It is one of the longest running series in U.S. Mint history. In 1959, to mark the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth, the Lincoln Wheat Cent was redesigned with a different reverse. The reverse featured an image of the Lincoln Memorial, built in 1922. The coin is known as the Lincoln Memorial.

In 1982, the copper composition was replaced with copper-plated zinc which remain through this year's issues. In 2009, to mark the 200th anniversary of Lincoln's birth, four reverse designs were featured, depicting four phases of his life. Starting in 2010, the design's reverse was altered again with the Shield Reverse, which makes for some fun collecting.

Lincoln Memorial Cents are readily available in uncirculated and proof condition and are generally affordable.
