The Kennedy Half Dollar is one of the most popularly collected coin types. Following John F. Kennedy's assassination  in 1963, the United States Mint began issuing Kennedy Half Dollars in 90% silver in 1964. In 1965, the silver content was changed by an Act of Congress to 40% silver content for the half dollars. This practice continued through 1970 and in 1971, all silver was removed from the half dollar.

Rare coin collectors will have a lot of options with the Kennedy Half Dollar series. There are regular mint issues, proof strikes, and silver coins to collect. Kennedy Half Dollars have been issued for over 50 years with essentially the same design. With the exception of silver collectors whose main interest is the silver bullion content in Kennedy Half Dollars, rare coin collectors should be able to obtain nice uncirculated and proof coins without too much work.
