The Benjamin Franklin half dollar coin was minted from 1948 until 1963. It is one of the shortest mint production runs. It was shortened because of John F. Kennedy's assassination in 1963 and the release of the Kennedy Half Dollar starting in 1964. Franklin half dollars are very collectible and readily available in most grades. Some people collect Franklin Half Dollars because of their 90% silver content, others for the beauty and numismatic value. Franklin Half Dollars in PCGS or NGC MS-63 and higher, especially with the Full Bell Lines (FBL) designation command substantial premiums from rare coin colletors.
