Classic U.S. Gold Coins are Pre-1933 US Gold Coins minted for circulation. In 1933, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt passed an executive order making the "hoarding of gold coin, gold bullion, and gold certificates" illegal in response to the Great Depression. Subsequently many classic U.S. gold coins were melted down and destroyed. This has made certain coin series difficult to find in better condition. However some of the most collectible U.S. gold coins are still readily available.

The Augustus Saint Gaudens $20 Double Eagle and Liberty Head $20 Double Eagle are a couple of examples. Then there are the Indian $5 Half Eagles and the Indian $2.50 Quarter Eagles which were the first incused gold designs minted in the U.S. And during the time after the California Gold Rush we saw the creation of the Indian Princess Head Gold Dollars and the $1 Liberty Head Gold. Each one of these types of coins are readily available for collectors in all grades. Take a look at our selection below!
